The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) is a statutory body, established by the Teaching Council (Scotland) Act 1965 and currently has a membership of over 80,000 registered teachers.
As a result of user feedback, GTCS began to review their eBusiness requirements in 2005, their main aim being to build a website from which to communicate with its stakeholders and members. To deliver their vision GTCS required a partner with a proven reputation that would be capable of delivering their full ebusiness strategy. GTCS selected C2 Software in 2006 based on the proposed solution, experience and proven track record. As part of the project, we provided a web content management system giving GTCS the ability to empower content authors, providing them with ease of use, content personalisation, future-proofing, flexibility, and extendibility. A key requirement for GTCS and one that was successfully met was to deliver content that met best practice in both usability and accessibility. The GTCS website went live on the 28th April 2006 on time, to budget and to specification. Based on the success of the initial phase and feedback from members, GTCS are now looking to further extend the range of eBusiness services building on the improved communication with stakeholders and members.
The thought of embarking on large complex web projects no longer fills me with the dread it once did. The guys (and girls) at C2 have a knack of understanding what we want and how we can achieve it, and their ability to grasp our requirements in the early stages of a project gives me confidence that it will be a success. It has been a pleasure working with them so far and we hope to continue this in the future with the introduction of a major new initiative for the Council in May of next year.
