Herbalife is a private sector, multi-national premier wellness company with an annual turnover of over $3.5billion, specialising in simplified nutrition and weight management products. Products are distributed through a global sales network of independent distributors. Currently Herbalife conducts business in 66 countries through more than 1.5 million independent Distributors.
Herbalife had a requirement for a CMS based ecommerce solution to replace the existing way that distributors ordered products online, a cumbersome download of an Excel spreadsheet that then had to be sent on.
Herbalife were looking for an interface whereby Distributors could order quickly, in a functional environment, with possibilities to up sell on the landing page.
The critical functionality requirements were the capability of the shopping area to be secure and only visible to registered distributors. Easy to update Metadata such as distributor information was also a must, as was the ability to integrate with different third party payment gateways for the various markets.
Desired functionality requested by Herbalife was the ability to have different ordering methods, availability status of products and prominent visibility of the shopping basket on every page.
Herbalife had an existing and successful relationship with C2 Software for a number of years. C2 Software had used the Activedition content management solution to develop their Business Tools Online sites for Herbalife used throughout Europe and Middle East and as such, Herbalife were confident to engage with C2 Software on this new initiative as rapid delivery and low risk were prerequisites.
The first ecommerce site to be launched was for the United Kingdom and feedback from end users was overwhelmingly positive. The Distributors using the site were both happy to finally have an online solution, as well as being impressed by the ease of use of the site.
The initiative has now been rolled out to a further 20 countries including France, Turkey and South Africa to name but a few. A second phase of development has been commissioned by Herbalife to provide enhanced functionality based on a .NET framework. Initially this was delivered to the Australian market, work is ongoing across Europe.
Some countries now manage more than 70% of their business online. The average across all countries is 30 - 40 % of orders being placed online. This has driven huge efficiency gains across the organisation and has delivered significant return on investment for Herbalife Europe and Middle East.
C2 Software used the Activedition CMS as a platform for delivery of the secure ecommerce functionality which included payment gateway integration and tax handling for each market, catalogue, shopping basket and user registration. Activedition is a proven, scalable solution which fully delivers multilingual content.
C2 Software managed to help Herbalife implement its ecommerce strategy across the EMEA region in a professional, competent and competitive manner. The support received after implementation has also been of a high standard.
