Belfast City Council

 

Background

Belfast City Council is the local authority responsible for part of Belfast, the capital city of Northern Ireland. The Council serves an estimated population of 268,700, the largest of any district council in Northern Ireland. Belfast City Council is the primary council of the Belfast Metropolitan Area, a grouping of six district councils with commuter towns and overspill from Belfast, containing a total population of approximately 580,000.

Project Synopsis - Activedition CMS with Responsive Design

Belfast City Council elected to completely redevelop their local government website in 2013 and in so doing chose to use the Activedition CMS and C2 as their implementation partner.

C2 provided a range of professional services to facilitate the redevelopment, working closely with the Council team throughout to deliver a best-in-class website solution, conforming to:

  • eGovernment (electronic government interoperability framework), 
  • local government standards,
  • web accessibility factors, and 
  • validates to W3C web standards

There was also a need to focus heavily on the user journey to maximise transaction conversion and the overall end-user experience, and to be task-orientated as recommended by SOCITM Better Connected 2012. Belfast City Council also required a redesign of the website to support increasing levels of access from smartphones and other mobile devices.
